Full course description

Imagine our classroom as a native Hawaiian rainforest—lush, vibrant, and interconnected. Our native rainforests are living classrooms, where laulima—working together—can serve as a model for our classrooms to cultivate interdependence, resilience, kuleana, and aloha. Just as each species in the rainforest contributes to its health, every member of the school community brings unique strengths that support and uplift one another.

Laulima is viewed daily through shared efforts: families offering time and talent, children supporting one another through play, and educators ensuring a nurturing and safe environment.  Laulima builds a culture of learning by valuing everyone’s contribution and empowering shared kuleana.  The value of laulima teaches us the importance of maintaining balance in relationships, communities, and our interactions within our island home and throughout the honua (world).  By aligning with the value of laulima, we can embrace collaborative and restorative practices in our KSP learning environments.
