Full course description

The significance of 'ohana within the classroom and the 'āina as our kupuna is crucial. 'Āina has kuleana, as do we towards it. Each 'ohana and its members have kuleana as well. This concept has been passed down through generations. As the ʻōlelo no'eau states, "Ku i ka māna," meaning behaving like those who raised you. Māna is food chewed by an elder and given to a young child. The student gains knowledge from the teacher. At Kamehameha Schools, we believe that 'āina, as our oldest ancestor, offers valuable lessons. This papa will explore ancestral wisdom and traditions still practiced in some families to gain insight into the communities we support.
